China's domestic and export sales of excavators grow in Apr
Recently, the April construction machinery market data was updated. Excavator sales have shown remarkable performance, indicating a booming market trend.
According to statistics from the China Construction Machinery Association, in April 2025, a total of 22,142 excavators of various types were sold, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%. Among them, domestic sales reached 12,547 units, a year-on-year increase of 16.4%; export sales were 9,595 units, a year-on-year increase of 19.3%.
From January to April 2025, a total of 83,514 excavators were sold, a year-on-year increase of 21.4%; among them, domestic sales were 49,109 units, a year-on-year increase of 31.9%; exports were 34,405 units, a year-on-year increase of 9.02%.
Since May 2024, excavator sales data have continued to rise, with performance exceeding expectations in 2025. Although the year-on-year growth rate of sales in April slightly narrowed, it remained at a nearly one-year high, indicating that domestic demand stimulus policies are taking effect, and the export market is also growing steadily on a high base.
In terms of domestic sales, except for January, the monthly sales of excavators in 2025 all exceeded 10,000 units, accounting for more than 50%. This shows that the recovery of domestic demand has become the main driving force for the increase in excavator sales.
In terms of exports, the market has continued a mild recovery since May 2024. Although there were fluctuations in export sales from January to April 2025, the overall trend was stable growth.
Combined with Komatsu’s operating hours data, in March, the operating hours in Japan, Europe, North America, and Indonesia increased by 1.5%, 9.0%, 8.3%, and 0.5% year-on-year, respectively, indicating a marginal recovery in the export market.
