China's excavator sales rise 19.5% YoY in Q1 2026, exports emerge as key driver
In Q1 2026, China’s excavator sales maintained a robust growth trajectory, with exports acting as the primary growth engine. Data shows total excavator sales reached 73,336 units in the first three months, representing a 19.5% year-on-year (YoY) increase. Single-month sales in March 2026 hit 37,402 units, surging 26.4% YoY.
Both domestic and overseas sales posted gains, with exports outperforming significantly: Q1 exports totaled 33,757 units (YoY +36.1%), while March exports rose 32% YoY, becoming the core driver of industry growth. Electric excavator sales remained relatively modest.
Operational indicators for construction machinery in March showed mixed trends: monthly working hours and operating rates rebounded month-on-month (MoM) but declined YoY, with noticeable disparities across different equipment types.
Institutions predict that domestic demand will continue to recover, driven by policy support and infrastructure development, further boosting industry sentiment. However, potential risks persist, including macroeconomic fluctuations and trade frictions.
